Quit The Bitchin’

Right - wallowing in despair and annoyance about AI is not helping me get anywhere - so time to turn this thing around and start doing what I love and shooting!

I have two strands I am working on now - well… three - first up is getting the art side built and being productive, which is a long term thing that is going to take quite some effort. It’s not the quality of what I do that is the problem, it is getting it out to the wider World to see (and buy) that I struggle with. So a big push on that side of things is needed!

The world of commercial photography is also needing some attention, and I am on the case. This is my “bread and butter” work - and this month has seen a huge issue in that as my current main client has gone down a different route (and a far inferior one if truth be told), but instead of seeing this as a set back I am going to turn it around and make it an opportunity to move upwards! I have been talking about diversifying my clientelle anyway so now I am looking at replacing 1 with 2 or 3 in the same field as a starting point, as that is where my portfolio currently lies. Stills are great, but I really want to capitalise on video - particularly as the quality of the work on display in the north of Scotland is not really that high. I can do better, and I am still on training wheels (so far as I am concerned). I think video work often attracts the technical personalities more than the artistic, so there is scope for me to move on that and produce some more nuanced work (and I can do technical too, at least to a point!). I have quite enjoyed doing more video work of late too, so growing that and building it into something better is quite appealing.

Anyway - today was the first shout of the year for Loch Ness RNLI so I was out doing my duty this morning. It was a bit of a non event in the end, but I was running the show which is the first time in a while it’s been on my watch! We also had a light snowfall overnight, fortunately I managed to pop the drone up for a quick photo before everything kicked off for my photo for today!
