Roots
My photographic roots that is!
As you may have already discovered - I love the human and cultural landscape of the Highlands, and I am getting myself ready to start shooting it properly. Today I was spurred on by a quick (very quick) stop off to photograph my “photo of the day” up on Dava Moor, and tomorrow my plan is to re-arrange my kit so that my panoramic camera (DaYi 617), big rangefinder (Fuji GSW690) and an incoming, second hand, not so compact compact, can find a proper transportable home in my big photography pack. This was previously home to the Nikon Z7 but that has migrated to my daily work shoulder bag, and the Z6 which was my general purpose camera is now off to videography duties instead.
There are plans, depending how this year goes, to slowly migrate my landscape kit away from Nikon and back to Fujifilm as I want to up the ante and shoot on a larger sensor - although the main reason is that I love the baked in panoramic formats that ape what I do with the DaYi. I tend to shoot stitched panoramics, which is fraught with problems of misalignments and not being able to compose in camera (although I do a pretty good guestimate in my head) and shooting native is so much more intuitive. This is not a cheap route to take - but it is beneficial not just to my landscape work, but also to start gunning for some architectural and design jobs where the bigger sensors become a real boon.
But, although it is only Wednesday, I think my week is done - and with two strong days - it has not been a bad one. Next week the boys are back to school and I have a few things booked in already, including one out on the west coast that I am looking forward to. I think we are looking okay for the moment then!
Of course, as I discovered recently, all this can change in the blink of an eye… and probably will!
