Here Comes the Summer Sun
Yes, it is the solstice and it has really played up to it’s billing as the first day of summer. Sunshine, high (by Highland standards) temperatures and lots of green! My day has largely been spent catching up with the laundry from Iceland though. And a wee bit of computer wrangling! Nothing drastic yet - I need a “back up” system before I try anything too substantial incase everything goes wrong and I am unable to work for the next week or two! I took the plunge yesterday and ordered up a “reasonable” laptop - nothing close to the kind of performance levels I had been toying with… but also nothing like the price! That would have probably put the order back a few weeks, and I am keen to start building the videography systems soon too! I am sticking with Windows but switching to ARM and a Lennovo machine - so we will see how that does! I am also going to give Capture One a try for my editing. I have played a bit today, but it is confusing my poor Lightroom and Photoshop addled brain!
The other reason for not going extreme - there are loads of interesting technological advancements on the horizon, I think buying in now to something high end would be a mistake - particularly with the highly inflated prices currently out there - so I am going to play the waiting game, give it 6 months and see how things look. This, of course, takes me to Christmas which is my very quiet time - so realistically I am hoping to see it through to Spring 2027 before making any large upgrades to my computing systems. Lets hope that my ARM experiment works well enough to tide me through to then, or that I can get this PC working properly in the interim!
Anyway, I am looking forward to the coming week. It is going to be a long week with a lot of travel but it will put me into some slightly less visited (by me) areas and I hope to find some new landscapes on my travels. Although the weather may be a bit too “good” for my usual dramatic tastes!
