Dead Can Dance
Today I took the scenic route between a couple of jobs, mainly as I was working in a corner of the Highlands that I haven’t spent much time in of late - and thought I would see what was down some of the side roads (there is a reason that I got called Sideroad Rob as something of a nickname at one stage…).
Anyway, on my travels I spotted a couple of Yew Trees growing over an old gate, and beyond the gate there was an old stone structure. This… I deduced… must be an old church. I have driven down that road a few times and never noticed it before! So I had a few moments to explore in the rain, and I am so glad that I did. It isn’t often you stumble upon a 13th Century church in Scotland - and even rarer to find a stone coffin, a lifting stone and apparently a tale of rather grisly punishments involving the two.
This is somewhere I want to return to when I have more time, and when it isn’t raining.
