In the Gallery

Having written my Artist CV yesterday… and realising I missed out some awards which I need to add in… and an Artist Statement… I got to thinking about what I am doing, where I am going and how I am going to do it a little more. And I came to a conclusion… the Wayward Spirit Studio work, by which I mean all the prints that go up for sale, will be purely analogue affairs from here on.

Why?

Well… digital is kind of “easy” to the point that, I think, it is lacking something. The images and prints can look stunning, but at the same time they just leave me a bit… flat. They are missing a dimension that analogue has, whether that is due to the process of not only taking the photograph, but having to make the print too, or something else, I am just not sure. But as it stands, at the moment, I feel that analogue photography is where my mojo lies. I will still be doing digital photography too, because my commercial practice remains thus, and I will keep on using it for a lot of my photo diary work… because I simply don’t have the time or resources to burn through a film every day, process it then either make some prints or scan the negatives to put a photo up each day!

But there will be some!

Scanning though, that is going to feature more for illustration and archiving of work - but any prints that go out, they will be hand printed, by me, in a darkroom! These will be printed on a variety of media, including fibre based and resin coated papers - but I also want to investigate some of the historic printing techniques so I hope to bring you cynotypes, salt prints and whatever else I try and works! I will try and make some videos of what I am doing too! The prints, though, the prints are going to be strictly one-off, unique, pieces - this is something I have always wanted to do and a way I have always wanted to work. It makes it more exciting, and also means that should you buy one, nobody else will have it. It also means if you see one and like it… don’t hang around because there will not be a second chance!

I will start putting a new gallery together soon of prints for sale - and perhaps keep an archive of past works too for posterity!

For now it is going to be black and white based… but I am experimenting with colour too!
