Memories
Back in the 80’s I was taught photography largely by my then geography teacher who shot on an Olympus OM. It remained a camera that I always coveted. When I was shooting film in the 80s, 90s and 00s they were too expensive for my budget - but things have changed over the subsequent years. The popularity of models such as Nikons and Canons have eclipsed these old, magnificent, Olympus cameras which are now really quite cheap.
We were discussing the OM-2n yesterday and on the way out I happened upon the very camera… the lightmeter is reading high so I suspect this will need to go in for a service after this first roll of film has been run through to test everything else.
This will be my “car camera”, its tiny but high quality with one of the best viewfinders of any camera ever made. Once serviced I will probably add a 24 and 35mm lens to the glove box too - they are seriously compact and seriously cheap whilst being exceptionally high quality.
So this camera is going to be an homage to my old teacher, Jim Fisher.

As I type this we are watching a documentary about a murder in Shetland - there are so many parallels to what happened in the tragic story I was involved in - the fabrication of a new narrative by the perpetrator… and the phone calls to the Police, a confession to parents - but the difference was that the case was never progressed in the situation I lived through. The fact that a confession and phone call at the time are not enough to prosecute is, and remains, a suprise to me.
