California Dreaming

All the leaves are brown. Well… not quite… but the change is a coming. I am really looking foward to is too, I admit, every year around now I start dreaming of autumn colours and photographing the golds, reds and browns but this year is a little different. I am shooting mostly in monochrome, so I am really looking ahead to the light changing to a lower angle with strong shadows and a landscape that is shutting down and resting. This is the time that the cultural remains in the Highlands start to stand out from the greenery a little more allowing me to explore that connection between people and landscape… our historic links to the straths and glens.

So do I have a shoot list ready. No… no, not really. Life has a habit of taking me away from my plans so I am just going to wing it day by day this time around. I will see where work is taking me and then have a hunt the night before for some likely looking places to explore and see what happens! If I get some quiet times then I may turn back to some of the places I have seen and missed over the past few years and try to get back out to visit them, but… unfortunately… commercial work needs to come first, and weekends are rarely free enough to let me go deep diving into the landscape.
